St Cooeys Wells nr Portaferry

Image 301 of 409

Named after St Cooey who lived on the Ards Peninsula. Following an ancient Irish tradition, the hawthorn tree, overhanging the wells, is tied with rags to facilitate cures. From this remote and beautiful place a path leads down through swaying reed beds to the salt marsh where St Cooey's penitential stone can be found.
