An important site dating from prehistoric times, Dun Lethglaise was the early name given to the Hill of Down. According to Muirchu, a late 7c Armagh monk and historian, this was where St Patrick was buried. From the top of the hill, on which the Cathedral now stands, one can see across the marshes of the Quoile to the beautiful remains of Inch Abbey.
