Irish Lady's Tresses

Irish lady's tresses (Spiranthes romanzoffiana) is an extremely rare and endangered wild orchid, singled out in the first set of all-Ireland conservation action plans. With its beautifully arranged spiral of creamy white flowers atop a pale green stem and a sweet fragrance, it is a special experience when it reveals its presence. This specimen was photographed near the shores of Lough Neagh.
