Nendrum monastic site

Image 241 of 409

The setting of this ancient monastic site is both dramatic and historic. It was founded in 5c by St Mohaoi, a young swineherd converted by Patrick and who gave his name to Mahee Island. In 976AD Nendrum was raided by Norsemen, but one should try to reconstruct the busy scene all around when the community was at the height of its power.
